Re: Our Tsuga mertensiana (Mountain Hemlock aprox 15 yrs old) a couple of weeks ago suddenly started raining down green needles. Checked cambium layer; tree is dead. About the same time, started spotting unidentifiable redish brown caterpillar w/yellow & black spots, reddish tufts on sides & long tufts near head & tail. I can't get a focused photos of this pest but have attached it anyway. Do you have any idea how to get this identified? I still have it captured. thank you.
