What you can do is paint the bare wood surfaces as painted wood discourages the boring holes. You can also plug the nesting holes with caulking, wooden dowels or steel wool to stop them. One study said that using almond oil on the wood that was infested discouraged new nests almost as well as a pesticide treatment.
