Good job using newspaper and mulch to smother your weeds. Your bulbs will burst through just fine in the spring and the newspaper will actually decompose and help to improve your soil. Keep at it with the weeding this year and you will notice a lot fewer weeds in future years. Always pull weeds before they bloom to avoid reseeding more weeds all over the garden.
