Planting a garden in New Mexico
I live in southwest New Mexico at 6,000 ft. near Silver City New Mexico on 10 acre of land. I want to plant a garden next to the house. I would like to plant chili, tomatoes, squash and anything else you might recommend. The soil is very rocky. What would you suggest how I should plant and what could I plant in this environment.

I must confess I have never gardened at high altitude so do not feel confident in recommending tips to you. Your best source of information for your unique climate would be your local extension agent and Master Gardener program. I do know your rocky soil will benefit from added amounts of organic material such as compost, grass clippings and leaves. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
