How to refresh geranium plants after winter

I have geranium plants stored in basement for winter and do not exactly remember how to refresh them for Spring. I did this years ago successfully. Please tell me the best way to restore growth in a large pot.

Congrats on getting your geraniums to make it through the winter. Now they need a good haircut (clip off top of old plants by at least one half) they also need sunlight from a bright window or covered patio and fertilizer. I would use half strength MiracleGro as a foliar feed and then add fresh potting soil on top of the old potting soil with some Osmocote and loosen it up by mixing the new soil into the old - just the top two inches, don't damage the roots. Once all danger of frost is past you can set the pot outdoors for a summer time of more blooms. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
