Best flower seeds to plant in cooler weather
Hi Marianne,
Which flower seeds are okay to plant in the fall, in the Pacific NW? I have so many I’ve collected, left over and bought on sale.
Will some seeds pop up in spring if I plant them under my leaf mulch this fall?

The seeds that are best for fall sowing are those that do well in cooler weather, or that need a cold spell before they can germinate. This would be wild flowers or those that are descendants of wild flowers like: alyssum, bachelor buttons, iberis, poppies, lupine, and foxglove. Scratch the soil, sprinkle the seed, and cover with a very fine layer of organic matter. In the spring be sure to protect the tender new seedlings from slugs.
