Marianne's Response

Selecting deer resistant plants

Hi, Marianne!

Are there varieties of hostas that are deer-undesirable? I live at the edge of a woods populated by Bambi and friends. I love hostas but am having no luck with them as the deer treat them as their favorite desert.

Thanking you in advance,
Bob Z.

The hosta with the thick blue leaves may be less tasty but my advice would be to grow brunnera, rhododendrons and Japanese Forest Grass in the shade instead. Deer like to taste everything but in my garden they never take a bite of the three above. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
