The most important tip for rose planting is to dig a wide hole at least three times as wide as the rose roots, and deeper than the roots of the rose plant. Add compost or steer manure mixed into the planting hole, and mixed into the soil you removed from the hole. Place the rose plant a bit deeper than it was growing before. Firm the soil with the heels of your hands, and do not stamp with your feet. Form a basin with the soil to catch water, and to keep the soil moist during dry weather while new roots grow.
