Marianne's Response

Do I need to cut back my Stargazer lily before planting it outdoors?

I received a potted Stargazer lily that has died back. I want to plant it outdoors, but I don’t know if I should cut it back to about 3″ or not.

No, do not cut back your lily. You can remove the faded flower from the top of the stem, but your lily needs the foliage to mature and make next year's blooms. You can transplant it outdoors in a sunny spot with good drainage anytime. May you enjoy many years of enchanted blooms. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
