Irises need full-on hot baking sun and should not be planted too deep. Divide the thick roots right after the blooming season and just barely cover the roots with soil. Newly divided corms may take a few years to settle in and grow to flowering size. If you divided two years ago, I would scrap some of the soil or mulch off the top of those roots now and expect some flowers this spring as the third year could be the charm.
