Hellebores: long-term or short-term?

I attended your hellebore class at Windmill. With your help, I purchased a hellebore and heuchera for a pot. I later wondered whether pots are a good long-term place for a hellebore or whether it should be for a short-term planting. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!

Hellebores prefer to be in the ground because as they mature the roots want to spread out - and hellebores will last for many years. Heucheras on the other hand do great in containers or in the ground - but heucheras will need division after just a year or two and are not as long lived as the heavenly hellebores. Both will do well for a year or so in a large container if you remember not to let them dry out in the summer and you use potting soil that drains well. Thanks for attending the hellebore class - enjoy your winter bloomers! Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
