How to prepare hydrangea cuttings for winter
I was recently given six hydrangea cuttings in small peat pots and was wondering how to prepare them for winter or where to plant them now so they thrive in the spring. They are still tented in plastic bags and are continuing to sprout new growth. I don’t want to lose them this fall and winter.

You did not mention what climate zone you are in. If your winters are mild you can dig the peat pots into the soil now and cover the rims of the pots with fallen leaves or a bark mulch. The hydrangeas will be fine. If you live in an area with freezing soil (the Midwest and Northern USA) you will want to protect the cuttings by keeping them indoors near a bright window or in a greenhouse. The challenge will be to keep the soil moist but not too wet. Do not fertilize until spring when you can then move the cuttings outdoors and plant directly into the ground.
