Gardenia with yellowing foliage

I have a gardenia bush that I just recently bought and planted in a pot in my front yard. My house faces North but I have a very large tree in the front yard. I know my bush gets plenty of sun, but maybe too much? Yesterday when I got home I noticed that all my flower buds had turned to face South? I have about 10 buds that I thought would have bloomed by now, but they have not? Any Ideas? Thanks.

No worries. Your gardenia is just adjusting to the new location and if the buds are still on the plant they will open soon. Gardenias prefer partial shade and protection from the hot afternoon sun. Too much sun may show up as sunburn or yellow markings on the foliage. Keep the soil moist but not wet and perhaps you can slip some bottle caps under your potted plant so that the drainage hole will not be blocked and the soil can drain freely. Poor drainage and too much water will cause bud drop. Sounds like you'll have a very fragrant front yard soon. Enjoy! Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
