Hydrangeas are easy to add to the garden. Water the plant well so it slips out of the container and place it in the planting hole so that it is sitting at the same level it was in the pot. Hydrangeas like a site where they are shaded from the hot afternoon sun, and they also like compost worked into the planting hole. For a large plant in a 5-gallon pot I would add 5 teaspoons of Osmocote into the planting hole. Firm the soil around the roots gently - do not stomp on the soil.
