Best kitchen scraps to use to keep weeds out of the garden

I’ve been hearing about putting baking soda on path ways to keep out weeds. Does it work? Or cause more harm than good? Also, I’ve heard it’s good to use egg shells and coffee grounds in the garden. How would I use those?

I have not had good luck using baking soda to keep out weeds or moss - but then I again I live in the rainy region of Western Washington. I do add coffee grounds and egg shells to my compost pile and I have worked coffee grounds into my soil around the roses. Composting these kitchen scraps is the best way to use them in the garden - egg shells not buried in the ground can attract rodents and coffee grounds on top of the soil can grow mold.
