Marianne's Response

Yes, you can get snippy with your hydrangeas now by harvesting the blooms but wait until spring - when you see the daffodils in bloom to give hydrangeas a more serious pruning job. Remember that all hydrangeas grow best with very little pruning. These shrubs are not like roses that need serious pruning every year. If you need to keep your hydrangeas shorter, grow the Endless Summer varieties that will flower on both old and new wood. Most hydrangeas will only bloom on two year old wood so pruning them back hard each year can mean lots of leaves and no flowers. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
