Tom Moore’s Question
Dear Ms. Binetti:
I have a potted 24″ Japanese Maple that has flourished for the past two years. This winter, it has retained it’s leaves until now. Branches are vibrant and flexible with none dead or apparently diseased. The leaves are difficult to remove. It is under a covered entry although exposed to the cold and elements.
What’s wrong if anything and I should just wait until warmer weather in spring.
The soil is compact although appears to be fine.

No worries about our potted maple tree. Sometimes the tree holds onto the foliage even after the have turned brown especially when they are in a protected location such as the covered entry you describe. When spring comes the new growth will push off the old leaves and all will be well. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
