The Leaves of My Potted Ferns Are Dull

I have 2 large, beautiful Boston Ferns around a pool in planters, 16 x 16. The ferns are droopy and dull looking. They are in planters and tight. I was hoping you could suggest a food to make the leaves look healthier. Thank you. I don’t believe it is a watering problem. Thank you.

My question is, when the last time the ferns were repotted? You mentioned they were in pots and "tight" so perhaps they need to be moved into larger containers. Potted plants also need to be fertilized. Use Osmocote at one half strength or one tablespoon for a 10 inch pot. In a few months you should see fresh, bright, new growth.
