Marianne's Response

Garlic

Think I found some elephant garlic that I forgot I had planted. I pulled it up and it was dirty and had a thin skin that came off while cleaning. It also came apart into several large cloves. Is this edible? Can I plant it again?

Yes, I would use the garlic you show for cooking, but not eat it raw. You can also try planting the cloves of elephant garlic this fall. Garlic does like a very well drained soil and not too much water so perhaps the lose skin and brown areas are due to too much moisture around the bulb. Fall is a good time of year to plant garlic so dig in and Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
