Getting rid of corn seeds

Hi,
I left some sweet corn in my garden this fall, so a lot of the kernels fell onto the soil. I want to plant a different crop this year. How do I prepare the soil to prevent the corn from germinating along with my new crop? If I cover the area with black plastic would that work to sterilize the area or is there a better approach? I’m on the South Hill of Puyallup. Thanks

No worries as corn seedlings are easy to recognize, pull up easily and in your climate it is doubtful many would survive the wet winter and germinate in the spring. The birds and other wild life will most likely enjoy them before winter rain rots them. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
