Figs can be fickle. They like heat and in a cool climate (not sure where you garden) the figs should be brought indoors and allowed to soften and ripen in a warm, dry spot. It is not just how hot it gets during the day but also the night time temp that speeds ripening. Some varieties of figs do better in cooler climates than others. In the cool summer climate of Western Washington and Oregon my experience is that the Brown Turkey figs ripen best. Perhaps the count extension agent in your area can tell you what figs ripen best in your climate. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
