Yes, coreopsis is a perennial (this means it comes back each spring after going dormant or dying back in the winter) and this sun loving summer bloomer does great in containers as long as you use a potting soil and a pot with drainage holes. As with all container gardens you will need to fertilize or use a potting soil that contains a slow release plant food like Osmocote. You can plant coreopsis in hanging baskets or containers that can be hung but you will not have a very good view of the blooms as this is a more upright plant with flowers on top of tall stems that are 8 to 12 inches tall. Most plants used in hanging baskets either drape over the sides of the pot like petunias and ivy geraniums or have flowers that dangle downward such as fuchsias and begonias. Perhaps you can hang a container of coreopsis low, so the blooms will be at eye level and the pot will be easy to water.
