Marianne's Response
Brown oak tree leaves
One of our large oak trees has some brown leaves on it already and I’m not sure if it has a disease which I should be treating for. There is another oak tree nearby it which does not have any of these brown leaves. What should I do?

At this time of the year it is hard for me to say what is causing the brown leaves but let us hope it is root injury from a mole or other rodent. You can cut out the dead sections any time of year but sterilize your pruning tools with a 70% alcohol solution to avoid spreading a disease. You did not mention where you live but as there is a Oak Leaf Fungus disease in some parts of the nation I hope you will contact your local land grand university or professional nursery person to see if there is an outbreak of this fungus in your area.
