Green Pole Beans
Marianne, for the first time in twenty years, I have no flowers on my green pole beans. I have lots of vine, but no flowers, therefore there are no beans. To my understanding, beans don’t need to be pollinated, however there are bees in my garden. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks!!!

A lack of blooms on heat lovers like beans is most often due to a cool spell in early summer or lack of sunshine. Not sure where you live but many areas had a very cool month of June. Another reason for no blooms is a soil that is lacking in essential nutrients - especially if the soil has been supporting crops in past years and you did not give back to the soil in the form of fertilizer or compost. Improve your soil and don't plant your beans too early and you should be back in beans next year. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
