Potting depth for black eyed susans

Hi there! I am building a simple trellis (about 90in tall). I would like to sew black eyed susan seeds and encourage them to vine up the trellis. I’ll need to use containers and I’m wondering how deep they should be. I read online that they can have very deep root systems, so maybe it’s not a good choice. If not do you recommend another flower for vining?

Black Eyed Susan vines or thungbergia is a great annual vine and I have grown them in containers many times. As long as the pot is at least 18 inches deep the vines will grow quickly to cover your trellis. There is also a Black Eyed Susan perennial plant that is more shrubby and is a type of a Rudbeckia daisy. I am going to assume you meant the annual vine that loves the sun, grows fast but then dies at the end of the season. If you want another fast growing vine to add to your pot try the scarlet runner bean, another annual to grow from seed, that has blooms plus edible bean pods. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
