Marianne's Response
Hydrangea on the brink.
Good morning! I unfortunately left a fuschia glow hydrangea in a pot over winter. Unlike my flower beds that I engulfed them with leaves to protect and it has a few tiny leaves growing at the base but that’s it. Should I trim the small stems to promote growth or would that make it worse if it’s not already incapacitated?

No worries, your hydrangea is going to be fine. Do not prune off the brown branches just yet. They may sprout in late May once the nights are warmer. By June if the tips are still brown and leafless you can cut them back to where you see new growth coming out. I predict by late summer your hydrangea will be blooming again or at least in bud. Be sure to fertilize whenever you see signs of new growth on potted plants. Osmocote will release the nutrients slowly when the hydrangea needs it. This fall move the hydrangea to a more protected location and it should pop out with new growth a bit sooner. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
