Laurel Removal

We inherited a completely overgrown hedge of laurel that took over the front yard. We’ve removed the plants and removed as much of the roots as we could find. There continues to be runners that keep resprouting. They come up under other plants. How do we get rid of them and stop them from coming back without damaging the other plants?

Marianne's Response

English laurel is a tough plant to get rid of but if you recut the trunks and stems and paint the cut ends with Roundup immediately after cutting this should send the product down to the roots to kill the plant once and for all. To avoid the use of herbicides the cut and cut again method works as well. Cut all new sprouts, then cut again and again. By cutting for at least a year you will starve out the roots as the foliage will never have time to make food for the root system. Be persistent and you can do it. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
