Marianne's Response
No Till practice with nursery purchased plants?
I have a query relating to my raised beds and no till gardening. I would like to disturb the soil in my raised beds as little as possible, as one does in no till farming/gardening, as I transition through each gardening season. This would be partially accomplished by leaving the roots of last seasons flowers and crops in the ground. However, I usually purchase the majority of my plants from my garden center. This soil of the purchased plants contains a fair amount of perlite/vermiculite. Can that graden center growing mixture, with the perlite/vermiculite be safely left in my raised beds. Thank you for the advice.

Yes, the soil found in nursery pots is great for raised beds as the vermiculite and perlite helps to lighten the soil and improve aeration. I never waste old potting soil and instead add it to my own raised beds to keep the soil light and draining well. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
