Marianne's Response
Any thoughts?
I have a flowerbed that gets full sun from 2 hours after sun-up until an hour before sunset (summer). It is watered by 3-days-per week sprinklers and by rain when the sprinklers are off. My soil is red clay and rock. I fertilize with Osmocote. This spring I planted butterfly bushes to replace the Firepower Nandina that I previously planted the year before. During the replacement, I noted that the holes were not draining and the Nandina was water-logged. I’d like a plant that could grow 3′ -6’and just as wide. Any thoughts?

If you are looking for shrubs that can handle water logged soil then I suggest members of the willow family or the dogwood shrub called Cornus stolonifera. Some type of spiraea might also adjust. You could also raise the bed to improve drainage. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
