Marianne's Response
Annabelle hydrangea
I live in zone four. I have a large bed of Annabelle hydrangeas that have bloomed beautifully for 25 years. We recently lost our dog and the deer have moved in. Two years ago they chewed all the flowers off in early spring. This spring I put deer netting over them and hoped they’d flower. They did not. We will be getting another dog which will hopefully stop this issue with deer but Should I trim them down to the ground in the fall? That’s what I have done for 25 years and they’ve always been healthy

Marianne's Response
Yes, the Annabelle hydrangeas flower on new growth so pruning them back as usual is the best way to encourage them to flower again. So sorry about the loss of your dog and let's hope the new puppy will be able to bark out "Not tonight deer" Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
