akabea vine
My akabea vine looks worn. it gre vigorously and I cut off dead vines in fall…Fall… it’s March and wondering if it’s ok to cut it severely and leave about 2 feet to let it grow back healthy?? it was real healthy before it got out of control!!

Yes! Your enthusiastic akebia vine can be cut back in the spring to restore new growth but it does not like fall pruning. I suggest you wait until you see signs of new growth this month before you make any pruning cuts. Pruning after blooming is the general rule of green thumb for vines so if your akebia usually blooms in April you may want to wait until then to prune it back. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
