What to Do with Regrowth on a Fallen Redbud Tree
I have a mature redbud tree that fell over 2 winters ago. This Spring I chose to cut it at its base because there were new sprigs sprouting from the trunk base in a vertical position. There are 3 sprouts about 4 feet tall all originating about 1 inch from each other. Shall I let each grow and then determine if I should remove 2 to create 1 trunk or let all 3 grow? They are all very hearty.

I suggest you let all three grow. One may take the lead and declare "apical dominance" in a few years but meanwhile you have more leaves to support the roots below for faster rejuvenation of the tree. Maybe in 3 years or 4 years if all are the same size you can make the cut to see who becomes the trunk. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
