Your orchid tree is actually a Bauhinia plant and can be grown from seed or cuttings. To take a cutting chose a branch the thickness and length of a pencil and clip off all flowers. Remove the foliage from the bottom half of the cutting and poke this end into moist soil. A 4 inch pot is a good size for filling with potting soil and then using for the new cutting. You will need to keep the soil moist and the pot in a warm and humid spot. Roots can take months to form so be patient. Perhaps in a year you can transplant the rooted cutting into the ground. What a great adventure it is trying to root tropical plants. I suggest you take many cuttings this summer as most will not "take" or form roots. Then if you get even one to take, you can enjoy the success of plant propagation. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
