Wounded tree
We have an Autum Flame Maple we planted 14 years or so ago to shade our patio. A couple of years ago we noticed bark falling off the trunk and a branch. The pictures illustrate. The branch is about 4 inches wide and the trunk about 12.
Is this something to worry about and if so can we do anything about it?

I predict your maple will be just fine. It looks like the wound has healed over and the old bark is falling away. From the image you sent I see healthy foliage on the tree so I suspect it has recovered from the old injury and putting on new growth. Enjoy all that summer shade, and Keep Growing, Marianne Binetti
