Are Variegated Tomato Leaves a Sign of a Viral Infection?
A few of my tomato seedlings have variegated leaves. Do you think I should be concerned? The plants are still in my greenhouse waiting to be moved to the garden in mid-May.

Maybe. Variegated leaves on a tomato are a sign of viral infection. However, from your photo, it looks more like damage from cold water or thrips, or cold night temperatures, rather than a disease. I suggest you remove all distorted leaves, then wash your hands to prevent spreading the possible virus. If the leaves continue to mottle even if you avoid wetting the leaves and keeping the tomatoes warm, then it is more likely that the plants have a virus. There is no cure for the various viral infections of tomatoes, and they can spread to other tomato plants. Here is hoping your tomato plants make a full recovery once the ugly leaves are removed. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
