Most trees and shrubs enjoy coffee grounds, especially those growing in the desert. Coffee grounds help to make the soil more acidic, and in areas of low rainfall the soil is naturally less acidic. It is the acidity in the soil that unlocks the availability of certain nutrients. Coffee grounds should not be considered a fertilizer, but can act as one over time when your plants can absorb more nutrients. Just be sure to spread the grounds in a thin layer and work them into the top inch of soil a bit so they don't cake up or form a water barrier.
