That depends on what you mean by early and what you prefer to grow. Cool season vegetables such as peas, radishes, lettuce and cabbage can go into the ground in early spring when you see daffodils in bloom. If you live where the soil is clay, damp or compacted you will need to wait longer for the soil to drain and warm up a bit. Trees, shrubs and winter hardy perennials such as roses can go into the ground in early spring as well. The best planting advice when it comes to timing for your particular neighborhood and soil type will be your local Master Gardeners or local nursery owners.
