Orchids need excellent drainage so it is not all right to have an orchid plant in a container with no drainage. Once you transplant it into a pot with a large drainage hole, using the proper soil or planting medium (most orchids prefer to grow in fir bark or orchid soil not regular potting soil) then you can add 1/2 teaspoon of Osmocote around the base of the plant. Give the plant bright but indirect sunlight and remember that different orchids have different growth preferences. Do you know what type of orchid you have?
