Growing tomatoes in a container and in the ground
I brought a 1.5 gal. tomato plant with the stand around it. Can I leave it in the pail? Or, how deep do I have to plant it, and how long will it be before I will see tomatoes? Also I would like to thank you for your help because I am a city girl, and now I live in TN and need all the help I can get.

You can leave that tomato in the pot if it is a dwarf or patio tomato. The label may tell you what type you have. If you have a large fruited tomato than dig a hole at least 12 inches deep and mix some compost and slow release plant food like Osmocote into the planting hole. Next, carefully remove the plant from the pot (water it first) and place it into the hole. Tomatoes are one of the few plants that you can plant deeper than they were originally growing. This vegetable must have full, hot sun. You will see young green tomatoes a few weeks after the plant blooms - perhaps as early as June. It can take until August for the fruit to ripen and turn red.
Keep growing,
