Steps to prepare your raised bed garden for spring
I have an old raised garden bed that is full of weeds. What do I need to do to prepare it for vegetables this spring? Can you give me a step by step from weeding to preparing the soil?

Step one: Hand pull the largest weeds to remove all deep roots. This is easiest when the soil is moist. Step two: Hoe the smaller leaves and rake up the remains so that you are left with bare soil. Step three: Loosen the soil with a hoe or shovel. Step four: Improve the soil with compost or composed manure by spreading two to three inches on top of the bare soil and then working this into the top six to 12 inches of your soil. Now the raised bed should hold loose, rich weed free soil and it is ready for planting - and you'll be ready for a rest and a cold drink. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
