In Western Washington there are several opinions on best pruning times for fruit trees. Prune in the spring to stimulate new growth or in the summer to get rid of suckers or in the winter to shape a young tree. The good news is that how you prune a young tree is more important that perfect timing. Sharpen the shears, be brave and just get snippy with it. Pick a main branch or leader to point upward, shorten out of control limbs and remove any side shoots growing from the trunk. Congrats on the new home and  orchard. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
