Aphids on kale

I am trying to grow Kale in a large pot. Within days I see holes in the leaves and what I think are aphids on the bottom side of the leaves. (tiny white spots.) Can I spray the plants with a solution of white vinegar?
Also will I have similar problems with my chard I also planted in a pot?

It does sound like aphid on your kale but do not use vinegar as it is a bit harsh for the foliage. A strong jet of water works just as well. Planting your kale and chard in a pot does not cause insect damage. You can always cover your crops with an agricultural fleece such as Remay to keep out all insects that are attracted to the soft new growth. A bit of insect damage should not detract from the benefits of the fresh vegetables so don't be afraid to enjoy your harvest. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
