Marianne's Response
beagpett’s Question
I’m getting my vegetables ready for planting. Do I need to turn over the soil in my raised beds every year?

No. Some studies show that you should disturb the soil bio structure (tiny, living soil bacteria and network of life) as little as possible and just layer on fresh compost or mulch to renew your soil at planting time. There are some soils that become hard and compacted over winter, add compost and working this into the soil a bit and it will help loosen the structure. An advantage of raised beds is that you don't step on the soil so it does not compact and usually does not need turning.
Keep growing,
