BigKKK1’s Question
I am planting in a large planter box at my front door. I live a winter area so was wondering if there are any trees or bush type plants I could use as a base for all 4 seasons? Then I would just add other plants around it during as the weather changes. Thanks.

Yes! I love the design of a container with four seasons of color. A small tree that would work would be the coral bark maple but for a shrub consider an evergreen yew especially for the shade and if it is in full sun a colorful barberry such as the orange rocket. Euonymous winter creeper, heather, hellebores and nandina are other ideas. Keep growing - all year long. Marianne Binetti
