Marianne's Response
Bird of paradise

I’m concerned about this plant had about a year. It was doing great had new leaves about once a month. I don’t have alot of light in my home so I’ve been using plant grow lights.
So I’ve been noticing the leaves curling in and edges are dry. The plant was in a large pot so I repotted it to a smaller pot. Cut of the leaves that were turning yellow.
I went and got new soil so I’ve been using miracle gro for indoor plants some perlite peat moss.
Online it says that it if curls inside lack of water. But when I do the finger test the soil is still moist.
I have my humidifier next to the plant with the grow light.
What am I doing wrong and can I save this plant. Please help

Curling leaves does mean lack of water but it also means too much water. Too much fertilizer can also cause fast, weak growth that must be staked up. I suspect you over fed and over watered the plant. I so see some healthy green leaves so perhaps if you left it to dry out a bit and stop feeding it will adjust. The Bird of Paradise likes lots of light but protect from the hot afternoon sun. It also likes to dry out between watering and needs very little water in the winter when the shorter days make it go dormant. You need patience with this houseplant. It can take 4 to 6 years to grow to blooming size and can be four feet tall before it flowers. In the winter keep it cool between 55 to 60 degrees so it will slip into dormancy. It is after a winter rest that this plant will set buds and flower in late spring. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
