Blackberry bush in hedge

I live in a Town house (Owner) and have asked the gardener to get rid of a blackberry bush which just started growing in the hedge in front of my house. He just cut the top of the hedge and didn’t dig out the blackberry bush. I presume he will do that again when it reaches the top of the hedge but I would like remove it some how. Do I have to dig it out it has thorns on it like an old rose? Huge! Can I cut it to the ground and put a weed killer on it? Will that do it?
Thank you,

You have the right idea. If it was my hedge I would not dig out the roots of the blackberry. I would cut it to the ground then paint the cut stump with RoundUp to kill off the roots without disturbing the hedge. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
