Marianne's Response

Calla lilies are best grown from bulbs not seeds. It is possible to raise them from seed but it takes four to five years for seedlings to grow to blooming size and then the new plant may not flower like the parent plant so it is a gamble. The bulbs can be purchased in the spring and planted in a spot where you can keep the soil moist. They need good drainage and are tender plants from South America so protect during the winter with a thick mulch or dig and store the rhizomes (bulb-like roots) in the fall if you live in a cold winter area. There are many different types so look for potted callas at nurseries so you will know what color the blooms will be. You can grow the plants in pots as well as in the ground.
