Bulb Baskets
Do bulb baskets work well for planting bulbs? Is it relatively easy to lift the basket out of the ground to separate bulbs or to plant summer annuals in the area occupied by spring bulbs?
Thanks!

Yes, if you have rather soft soil the planting baskets for bulbs work great. I assume the baskets are to keep mice and voles from eating your bulbs. I have also used black plastic nursery pots sunk into the ground to protect bulbs as these are sometimes easier to uplift and move once the flowers are finished blooming. Then the pots can sit behind a shed all summer while the bulbs dry and lie dormant, ready to be replanted in the fall. Just know that if you want your bulbs to flower again next year you must allow the foliage to ripen or turn yellow after the flowers fade. If you plant in wire baskets then remove them it may be hard to keep the bulbs moist as the greens slowly mature. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
