Can I cut this branch
I have a young purple trumpet tree. It’s been in the ground for 5 months now. Can I cut the lowest branch I circled in the picture? I believe the main “Y” is above this branch? Don’t want to kill the tree but want it to grow tall and be a nice shade tree. Thank you for your time.

Oh yes go for it! Proper pruning while young creates a great shaped tree and you have the right idea. Use sharp tools and make a clean cut close to the main trunk. No need to use pruning paint or anything just let the wound heal on its own. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
