Licorice plants

Could you give me as much information as you can about the licorice plant? Is it an annual or perennial?

Marianne's Response

There is a plant called licorice plant that is a Helichrysum petiolare. It has soft gray foliage. It is sold as an annual for hanging baskets and pots but can be treated as a \"per-annual\" which means if you keep it in a protected spot just above freezing it will survive winter and you can cut it back in the spring for another summer of fantastic foliage color. Let licorice plant dry out a bit in the winter so it will go dormant. Do not fertilize until late spring. There is also a licorice fern. Licorice fern is a hardy plant that will survive the winter in the Pacific Northwest if it gets plenty of water and is never allowed to dry out. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
